April is hot, sunny, and a month of two halves. The weather is at the warm end of the dry season, the water is comfortably warm, and the winter nortes are gone, so calm days are the norm. But the beach is no longer at its winter best: sargassum builds through the month, and the crowds swing from an Easter peak to a much quieter shoulder.

We'd book late April if value matters: once Easter clears, prices drop while the weather stays excellent, and it is one of the better-value windows of the year. We'd only choose early April if you want the Easter buzz or your dates are fixed, since it is both crowded and pricey. If a pristine beach is the priority, the earlier dry-season months are cleaner. Temperature and Humidity

April is hot. Days climb to around 31°C (88°F), and with humidity rising toward the summer pattern, the heat starts to feel more tropical than the crisp winter months. Nights are warm at about 23°C (73°F), so the light layer you needed earlier in the year can stay home. Expect around nine hours of sunshine a day and an extreme UV index, so sun protection, shade, and hydration matter more than ever.

April is still mostly dry, averaging about four rain days, though the first afternoon buildups of the coming wet season can appear late in the month. Sunny mornings remain the rule, so it is a reliable month for planning outdoor and water activities early in the day.

Sea and Outdoor Conditions

The sea is warm and comfortable at 27 to 28°C (81 to 82°F), with the nortes finished, so calm, flat mornings are common and ideal for the reef and for sailing. The complication is sargassum: as the season ramps up through April, drifting weed can cloud the water near shore and dull the reef clarity on some days, more so later in the month. Book reef trips for early mornings, lean toward the first half of April for the cleaner water, and keep cenotes in mind as a sargassum-proof alternative on a heavy-weed day.

Puerto Morelos stays cheaper than the Cancún Hotel Zone all month, and the post-Easter drop makes late April genuinely affordable. April is the last full month before whale shark season. The animals gather off the northern Yucatán from about mid-May to mid-September, so there are no tours in April yet, but the season is close, and it is a good month to plan and book ahead for a May or summer trip. In the meantime, April still delivers warm, calm water for the reef, especially early in the month before sargassum thickens. Sargassum builds through April. It is the ramp-up month between the clean winter beaches and the heavy influxes of May to August: usually still light in early April, then moderate and more frequent by late month. Puerto Morelos still fares better than many open-coast beaches because the reef sits just offshore, but the pristine, weed-free sand of January and February is behind you.
