We scored every well-reviewed hotel on Cozumel, priced the best of them on six dates and read their newest reviews. These are the 12 that held up, from an $84 hotel by the ferry to all-inclusives on the reef.
What You Should Know
- Cozumel's hotels sit along one road on the island's sheltered west coast. Where you stay on it (in town, on the north shore or on the south shore) decides your beach, your snorkeling and how many taxis you take.
- Much of the west coast is rocky ironshore rather than sand. Several of the best-rated hotels, Cozumel Palace among them, have no sandy beach at all; guests enter the sea from ladders and piers. If sand matters, look south, to Presidente InterContinental, Allegro or Iberostar.
- Six of the 12 hotels here are all-inclusive, from $189 a night at Allegro to $442 at Cozumel Palace. Three include breakfast, and three are room only.
- Good rooms do not have to be expensive here. Three hotels on this page cost under $150 a night, and all three score 8.7 or higher.
- Every price on this page is an estimated nightly rate for two adults before taxes, taken from six three-night stays between December 2026 and July 2027. Final price on Expedia.
Hotels in Cozumel: What the Data Shows
Cozumel is a dive island first, and its hotels reflect that. The best-rated ones are either small, personal places in and around San Miguel, the island's only town, or resorts on the west-coast road with a reef, a pier or a dive shop on the doorstep. The windward east coast is wild and almost empty of hotels, so every hotel on this page is on the west side.
We took every Cozumel hotel our hotel data partner lists with a guest score of 8.0 or higher on at least 150 reviews, 29 in all. We priced each on six separate three-night stays, read the newest 40 reviews of every contender, and dropped any hotel with no rates, recent theft reports or a recent score well below its headline. Thirteen came through, and this page ranks the 12 you can book on Expedia.
The short version: Cozumel Palace is the best-rated hotel we rank at 9.4, an all-suite all-inclusive a walk from town. Presidente InterContinental is the pick for a sandy beach with a reef off it, and has the most reviews on the island. Playa Azul is the best value on the sea at $108 with breakfast, and Hotel Plaza, a block from the ferry, is the cheapest good room at $84 with breakfast.
Below are the picks by traveller type, a map, estimated rates for all 12 and a profile of each, including the recent complaints. Once you have a room, our guides to snorkeling in Cozumel and scuba diving in Cozumel cover the reefs, and our best things to do in Cozumel guide covers the rest of the trip.

Where to Stay in Cozumel: Town, North Shore or South Shore
In and around San Miguel. Hotel Plaza is a block from the passenger ferry pier and the main square, so you can walk to restaurants, shops and the boat to Playa del Carmen. Cozumel Palace is on the waterfront at Km 1.5, about a 20-minute walk south of the centre; guests describe walking into town for dinner.
The north hotel zone. Suites Turquesa (Km 1.5), B Unique (Km 2.5), Playa Azul (Km 4), The Westin (Km 4.8) and Zel Cozumel (Km 5.8) line the road north of town toward the airport side of the island. The shore here is a mix of rock and small sandy coves, the water is calm and clear for snorkeling, and town is a short taxi ride away. Guests at Playa Azul put it at 8 to 10 minutes by car.
The south hotel zone. Presidente InterContinental (Km 6.5), The Explorean and Fiesta Americana (both Km 7.5) sit between town and Chankanaab park, close to the reefs that most dive boats head for. Dive boats pick up from the piers here, and snorkeling straight off the shore is the main reason guests choose this stretch.
The far south. Allegro (Km 16.5) and Iberostar Waves (Km 17.8) are on their own beyond the main hotel zone, with wider sandy beaches and a long taxi ride into San Miguel. Stay here if you plan to spend most of the trip at the resort.
Most snorkel and boat tours pick up from the downtown piers or from hotel docks along the west coast. Our Cozumel boat tours guide covers where they leave from, and our Playa del Carmen to Cozumel ferry guide covers getting to the island.

1. Cozumel Palace: best-rated and best all-inclusive
An all-suite all-inclusive on the waterfront at Km 1.5, close enough to San Miguel that guests walk into town and to the cruise piers. A 9.4 on 432 reviews, and the newest 40 average 9.5. Guests praise the restaurants, the kids' club, the on-site dive shop and the snorkel trips to El Cielo. Our full review of Cozumel Palace covers rooms, recent guest reviews and estimated rates.
The trade-off: there is no sandy beach; you swim and snorkel off the hotel's waterfront instead. It is also the dearest hotel on this page, $442 to $730 a night all-inclusive.
2. Presidente InterContinental Cozumel: best beach and snorkeling
A five-star resort at Km 6.5 with a sandy beach and a reef you can snorkel straight off it, plus its own dive shop and dock. With 1,238 reviews it has by far the deepest review base on the island, at 9.2, and the newest 40 average 9.4. Guests describe walking from their room into world-class snorkeling. Room only, $231 to $362. Our full review of Presidente InterContinental Cozumel goes into the rooms and the reef.
The trade-off: food and drink are expensive, which several guests mention, and the resort is large enough that some rooms are a long walk from the main facilities.
3. The Explorean Cozumel: excursions included
A jungle all-inclusive at Km 7.5 whose rate includes guided outings around the island. Recent guests write about snorkel trips to El Cielo, where the starfish are, and name the guides who took them. Guests can also use the pool and beach club of the Fiesta Americana next door. A 9.2 on 347 reviews, newest 40 averaging 9.5, from $312.
The trade-off: it costs more than Fiesta Americana next door, whose pool and beach club it shares. One June 2026 guest returning after nine years was disappointed by how it had changed.
4. Playa Azul Cozumel: best value on the sea
A quiet hotel at Km 4 on the north shore with patches of sandy beach, pools and snorkeling off the front, breakfast included from $108. A 9.0 on 672 reviews. Guests put it 8 to 10 minutes by car from town, and divers mention a dive shop close by.
The trade-off: the beach is small, and some guests found food and drinks overpriced and the breakfast room too small. Its peak rate on our dates was $197.
5. Iberostar Waves Cozumel: best for families
Low-rise bungalows in the jungle at Km 17.8 on the quiet south coast, all-inclusive, with a beach, a pier for snorkeling, a dive centre that runs try-dives in the pool, and a kids' club. A 8.9 on 557 reviews, from $277, rising to $561 on our February date.
The trade-off: several guests in August and September 2026 reported two or three days without hot water, which staff put down to an island-wide fault, and the most common complaint is limited food variety. It is a long taxi ride from town.
6. Hotel B Unique: best sea views
A stylish oceanfront hotel at Km 2.5 with sea-view rooms, a dark-tiled infinity pool, a hot tub and small rocks you can jump from into clear water. Breakfast included, from $176. A 8.8 on 711 reviews.
The trade-off: breakfast is cooked to order and is slow at busy times; one guest waited 30 to 40 minutes. Its booking record says no children, but one guest mentions families at the pool, so check the policy before booking.
7. The Westin Cozumel: Marriott on the beach
A modern beach hotel at Km 4.8 with a beach, clear water for snorkeling, pools and a spa. Room only from $187, with an all-inclusive option guests describe as good value. A 8.8 on 511 reviews.
The trade-off: its newest 40 reviews average 8.2, below the headline. The main entrance was under renovation in summer 2026, and one August 2026 guest reported serious food poisoning on the all-inclusive plan.
8. Hotel Plaza Cozumel: cheapest, by the ferry
A central hotel half a block from the ferry pier, with a rooftop pool, a fridge in the room and a plentiful breakfast included, from $84. A 8.8 on 447 reviews. It suits a short stay, an early ferry or a trip built around walking the town.
The trade-off: the building is dated, there is no lift, and rooms were being renovated during spring and summer 2026, with one guest next to the works giving it a 1. Its newest 40 reviews average 8.1.
9. Fiesta Americana Cozumel: reef off the property
A smaller all-inclusive at Km 7.5 with reef snorkeling off the shore, a pier where dive boats pick guests up, a cevichería and evening shows that guests rate as the best on the island. A 8.8 on 364 reviews, and the newest 40 average 9.5. From $278.
The trade-off: one guest pointed out there is no sandy beach and no snorkel-gear loan, so bring your own mask and fins.
10. Suites Turquesa: apartments with kitchens
Quiet apartments at Km 1.5 on the north shore with kitchens, a large clean pool and a ladder down into the sea, with snorkeling in both directions from the hotel. Room only from $135. A 8.7 on 245 reviews.
The trade-off: there is no restaurant, the nearest restaurant and supermarket are about a kilometre away, and guests mention limited kitchen utensils.
11. Zel Cozumel: the north-shore all-inclusive
The former Meliá Cozumel (many recent reviews still use the old name), an all-inclusive at Km 5.8 with a beach, a family pool, kids' activities and a separate adults' pool and bar on The Level club floor. A 8.4 on 496 reviews, newest 40 averaging 8.9. All-inclusive from $280.
The trade-off: its headline score is the second-lowest here, and one guest recommended checking the rate on the hotel's own site before booking.
12. Allegro Cozumel: cheapest all-inclusive
An all-inclusive at Km 16.5 on a wide sandy beach that guests rate as its best feature, with a kids' club and an entertainment team that guests name in their reviews. From $189, the lowest all-inclusive rate on this page. A 8.0 on 703 reviews.
The trade-off: the food is the most common complaint (several guests call it repetitive or bad), and some found the rooms in need of updating. It is far from town.
Adults-Only and Family Hotels in Cozumel
Cozumel has few adults-only hotels. None of the 12 on this page is adults-only by name. B Unique's booking record says no children, and Zel Cozumel has a separate adults' pool area.
For families, Iberostar Waves and Allegro have kids' clubs and sandy beaches in the quiet far south, Cozumel Palace has a kids' club and is close to town, and Zel Cozumel runs kids' activities on the north shore. Our guide to Cozumel with kids covers what to do once you are there. Booking records are a third-party cross-check rather than the hotel's own policy, so confirm the child policy directly before booking.
How Much Does a Hotel in Cozumel Cost?
Across the 12 hotels on this page, estimated nightly rates for two adults ran from $84 to $730 before taxes. The meal plan explains most of that spread: the six all-inclusives start at $189.

Hotel Plaza at $84 with breakfast in town, Playa Azul at $108 with breakfast on the sea, and Suites Turquesa at $135 with a kitchen.
Beach hotels
B Unique at $176 with breakfast, The Westin at $187 and Presidente InterContinental at $231, both room only. You pay for meals on top.
Everything included

Our Take
The biggest surprise was how little the guest score tracks the price. Playa Azul scores 9.0 at $108 with breakfast, and the cheapest all-inclusive costs less than half of Cozumel Palace. What the extra money buys is location: a reef off the beach, or a walk into town.
Tips for Booking a Hotel in Cozumel
- Decide between sand and reef. Much of the west coast is rocky. The south-shore resorts and the far-south all-inclusives have the sandy beaches; the town and north-shore hotels mostly have ladders, piers and small coves.
- Bring your own snorkel gear. Not every hotel lends it, and the reef off your hotel is often the best snorkeling of the trip. Our Cozumel snorkeling guide covers the spots worth a boat.
- Divers, stay south of town. The hotels from Km 6.5 to Km 7.5 have piers where dive boats pick up. Our Cozumel scuba diving guide compares the dive operators.
- Budget for taxis. Only the town hotels and Cozumel Palace are walkable to San Miguel. From the far south, a trip into town is a long ride each way.
- Read the recent reviews, not the headline. The Westin's 8.8 sits on 511 reviews, but its newest 40 average 8.2. Fiesta Americana's newest 40 average 9.5, well above its 8.8 headline.
- Check the sargassum season. The west coast is sheltered, but our Cozumel sargassum guide covers which months and beaches are affected.
- Want a beach day without changing hotels? Our best beach clubs in Cozumel guide covers day passes on the sandy beaches.
How We Rated These Hotels
We started from every Cozumel hotel our hotel data partner lists and kept the 29 with a guest score of 8.0 or higher on at least 150 reviews. We scored those with a weighted average that pulls a rating toward the market mean in proportion to how thin its review base is, which is why a 9.2 on 1,238 reviews sits close to a 9.4 on 432.
Then we priced them, and recorded the meal plan. Each candidate was quoted on six separate three-night stays between December 2026 and July 2027. Caribo, Kippal, Villa Segovia, Hotel Caribe and Albatros all score well but returned no rates, so they are not ranked. We also left out Hacienda Boutique B&B and Spa, an adults-only B&B in town that scores 9.7 on 191 reviews, because it cannot be booked on Expedia.
Then we read the recent reviews. For each contender we read the newest 40 reviews and checked for theft, safety or closure reports. We left out Illa Cozumel and Villas El Encanto after guests reported items taken from their rooms or balconies in 2026. We dropped Occidental Cozumel, Hotel Casa Colonial, Coral Princess and Cozumel Hotel & Resort because their newest reviews averaged below 8, and Hotel Villas Colibrí for repeated complaints about noise, maintenance and value.
Every price, guest score and review count was verified against live data on 29 October 2026. We have not stayed at these hotels: this is booking data we pulled and checked, guest reviews we read, and our own judgement about what the numbers mean.
