Guest Reviews
Exceptional
2,350 guest reviews
Guests often praise
- Excellent central location (near 5th Avenue / seafront)
- Very friendly, helpful staff
- Highly rated on-site restaurant and good breakfast
- Beautiful garden / pleasant seafront setting
- Clean and well-maintained in many rooms
- Attractive decor and comfortable rooms (in many units)
Some guests mention
- Unpleasant sewage/odor issues reported in some rooms
- No usable pool / beach affected by sargassum
- Nighttime noise from nearby clubs, weddings or events
- Limited and inconvenient parking
- Slow or unreliable internet service for some guests
- Some rooms are dark, humid, with mosquitoes or small beds
- Occasional misleading advertising about pool/view
Mixed reports: several guests praise the hotel as very clean, but multiple reviews report strong sewage/odor issues, humidity and mosquitoes in some rooms which lowers the score.
Consistently praised: staff are frequently described as very friendly, helpful and attentive; repeat customers highlight positive treatment and helpful front-desk service (e.g., providing irons).
Very strong: repeatedly noted as central, next to 5th Avenue, seafront/garden setting and excellent for visiting Playa del Carmen — one of the hotel's standout strengths.
Mixed: some rooms and decor are described as lovely and comfortable, while others are criticized for small beds, dark conditions, humidity and mosquito problems or limited/obstructed views.
Some shortcomings: good on-site restaurant and garden, but guests note no usable pool (sargassum/sea issues), limited/uncomfortable parking, spotty internet and no in-room iron in some cases.
Divided opinions: many guests consider the hotel excellent value given location and service, while others feel the price is high relative to noise, lack of pool/beach quality and some room issues.
Strong: the restaurant and breakfast receive repeated praise (several guests call it excellent and highlight specific dishes), making dining a clear positive.
Generally very positive: numerous recommendations and repeat customers due to location, staff and restaurant, tempered by occasional noise, smell and amenity issues.

I really liked the staff and the personalized approach to each guest. I also enjoyed the food—the breakfasts and dinners were magnificent!
The only thing that was disappointing was the lack of a beach at the hotel. A beach was shown in the photos, but in reality, there isn't one. However, this doesn't spoil the overall impression of the hotel.

We had a wonderful stay at Casa Colibri in Playa del Carmen. The hotel is charming, comfortable, and exceptionally well located, making it a perfect base for exploring the area. The room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, and the entire property had a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were absolutely fantastic — friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist with a smile. Their hospitality really made our stay special. The location is another big advantage: close to the main attractions, restaurants, shops, and the beach, while still providing a pleasant place to relax after a busy day. Overall, Casa Colibri offers excellent value for money, great service, and a genuinely pleasant atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Playa del Carmen. We would happily stay here again!

Which Room to Book at Casa Colibrí
The rooms are small, from 20 to 30 m². City-view rooms face the street, garden-view rooms look over the grounds, and sea-view and partial-sea-view rooms face the beach. The largest is a 30 m² King Suite with an ocean view and a sofa bed. There are also a cottage and a cabin.

| Superior Twin or King Room, sea view | 25 m² | 2 to 4 | 2 doubles or 1 super-king |
| King Suite, ocean view | 30 m² | 2 | 1 super-king and a sofa bed |

The cheapest dates are early December and June. For three nights for two, the cheapest refundable room cost $302 in early December 2026, $522 in mid-January 2027, $439 in mid-February, $422 in mid-March and $269 in mid-June, with taxes included. A sea-view Superior Twin cost $655 in January and $494 in June. The hotel also collects an environmental tax at check-in.
Choose your view and bed carefully. Street-facing rooms catch the most night noise, one couple's balcony faced a neighbouring house until they were moved, and one guest's "sea view" was mostly garden. Several guests found the double beds small for two. Breakfast-included and room-only rates are both sold, so check which you are booking.
What Guests Say About Casa Colibrí
Across 2,350 reviews, Casa Colibrí holds a 9.0 out of 10. The 120 most recent reviews, from May to October 2026, average 8.6, with 48 perfect 10s and six scores of 5 or lower. Summer reviews are pulled down by noise and seaweed.
Guests love the location, the garden and the food. They describe a charming, clean little hotel on the sea, a short walk from everything, with a garden that feels like a jungle on the way to the beach. The Lido restaurant gets high praise for breakfast, dinner by the sea and dishes such as aguachile and shrimp tacos, and guests name front-desk staff who helped with tours. One guest has been coming back for over a decade.
Noise is the main complaint. More than a dozen guests describe music from nearby clubs and beach clubs until 3 or 4am; the hotel hands out earplugs. In summer 2026, more than ten guests found the beach covered in sargassum with a strong smell, and one cancelled because of it.
Other gripes: there is no pool and only a small beach, parking is limited to 14 spaces and was blocked by roadworks in August and September 2026, several found the beds small, and a few mention dated rooms, slow Wi-Fi or a sewer smell.
What You Should Know
- Bring earplugs or ask for them. Nearby clubs play music late, especially at weekends.
- Check the sargassum forecast before booking summer dates. In summer 2026 the beach was often unswimmable.
- Do not count on parking. There are only 14 spaces, first come, first served.
- Eat at Lido at least once. Guests rate the restaurant as a highlight.
