Four days in Tulum fits the ruins at opening time, three cenotes, a cooking class and a reef snorkel, with free beach time every day. Here is the plan, with start times, live prices and real costs for two by month.

What You Should Know

  • Four days is three nights, with two full days. Visit the Tulum ruins on your own at the 8 am opening, for 265 MXN (about $14) per foreign adult, and walk straight on to the free beach.
  • Day 3 is the cenotes: the Cenote Triple Adventure leaves its meeting point in town at 9 am and visits Gran Cenote, Casa Cenote and Cenote Zemway in about four hours, $130 per person on our check.
  • Every day has free time. Tulum's beach is public, with free access at Playa Paraíso, Las Palmas and Playa Pescadores, and the town is a flat bike ride away.
  • For two people, a town hotel, the tours, the ruins and private transfers from Tulum airport came to about $1,143 to $1,398 on our November 4, 2026 checks, depending on the month, before flights and meals.

4 Days in Tulum: The Plan at a Glance

⭐ Our 4-day plan: free beach and town on day 1, the ruins at opening time and a free beach afternoon on day 2, three cenotes and a cooking class on day 3, and a reef snorkel before your flight on day 4.

4 days in Tulum gives you time to do the ruins the smart way, on your own at 8 am before the tour buses, and to spend a whole morning in the cenotes. It also leaves free time every day, which is how Tulum is best enjoyed: a bike, a public beach and the town in the evening.

DayPlanStart and lengthPrice per person
Day 1Fly in; free afternoon at Playa Paraíso and a free evening in Tulum PuebloAbout 30 min from Tulum airportTransfer from $70 each way for two sharing
Day 2Tulum ruins on your own at 8 am, then a free afternoon at Las PalmasAbout 2 hours at the site265 MXN (about $14) entry

Day 4Two-hour reef snorkel or a free sunrise swim, then the airport10 am, 2 hours$49, or free

Prices are what we found on November 4, 2026 for two adults travelling in February and July 2027; they were the same in both months. For everything else Tulum offers, see our best things to do in Tulum guide.

4 Days in Tulum, Day by Day

Day 1: Arrive, the Beach and the Town

Tulum airport is about 30 minutes from town and Cancún airport about two hours; a private one-way transfer was $140 per vehicle on our check. See our airport transfer guide. Then a free afternoon at Playa Paraíso, one of the main public accesses on the beach road, and a free evening walking Avenida Tulum in town.

Day 2: The Ruins at Opening Time, Then the Beach

The Tulum ruins open at 8 am. Going on your own costs 265 MXN (about $14) per foreign adult since July 20, 2026: a combined archaeological zone and national park ticket plus the Parque del Jaguar fee, and you pass through Jaguar Park to get in. The first hour is the only time the clifftop view of El Castillo is free of crowds. Our Tulum ruins rules guide covers what to bring. Afterwards, Playa Mangle is free to walk into from Jaguar Park's south entrance between 8 am and 5 pm, or ride on to Las Palmas, another free access, for the afternoon.

Day 3: Three Cenotes and a Cooking Class

The Cenote Triple Adventure from Adventure Tour Center at Mateo's, rated 5.0 from 468 reviews, leaves its meeting point in town at 9 am and spends about four hours at Gran Cenote, Casa Cenote and Cenote Zemway, where you can jump from 15 and 18 ft platforms. It was $130 per person with gear, water and snacks; lunch is a $15 add-on. Its 30 most recent Viator reviews averaged 5.0. At 4 pm, the cooking class at a local family home, rated 4.9 from 613 reviews, includes all the food and drinks, among them beer, wine and mezcal, for $93 per person, about three hours.

Day 4: Snorkel the Reef or Watch the Sunrise

The two-hour Tulum reef snorkel with turtles and stingrays leaves at 10 am, noon and 2 pm and was $49 per person; transport is not included. See our Tulum snorkelling guide. If your flight is early, make it a free sunrise swim at Playa Pescadores instead; the coast faces east.

Free Things to Do in 4 Days in Tulum

Every day of this plan has a free block. These cost nothing beyond a bike or a short taxi.

WhenFree thingWhereWhy it fits
Day 1 afternoon and eveningPlaya Paraíso, then Tulum PuebloBeach road; the townA free public beach access, then dinner in town
Day 2 afternoonPlaya Mangle or Las PalmasJaguar Park south entrance; beach roadStraight on from the ruins; Playa Mangle is free to walk into from 8 am to 5 pm
Day 3 middayA bike ride between town and the beachAbout two miles, flatBetween the cenotes and the cooking class
Day 4 sunrisePlaya PescadoresBeach roadA free access point facing the sunrise

The beach is public, but the beach road has only a few free entry points and parking is tight, so a bike is the easy way to reach them; many hotels lend bikes. The federal government says 10 public beach accesses have opened along Tulum's coast since 2025. In spring and summer, check our Tulum sargassum guide first.

Change the Plan by Season

If you travel in...Change
June to SeptemberSwap the day 4 snorkel for a whale shark tour on day 2 or 3 (6:00 am, 6 to 10 hours, $199), and move the ruins to day 4 morning.
Spring and summerIf sargassum covers the beach, spend the free afternoons at the cenotes instead; they are never affected.
December to AprilThe ruins are busiest in the dry season; the 8 am opening matters even more.

Where to Stay for 4 Days in Tulum

Stay in town for this plan: the cenote tour and the cooking class start there, and the ruins and beaches are a bike ride away. In our sample the median town hotel was $97 a night for two in May and early December and $182 in January, against $176 to $341 in the beach zone. Our Tulum hotels guide compares both.

Compare Live Tulum Hotel Prices for 3 Nights

Book the Tours for 4 Days in Tulum

All of these could be booked for February and July 2027 dates on our November 4, 2026 check, except the whale shark tour, which runs only in season. The Cenote Triple Adventure is our pick for four days because it shows three very different cenotes in a single morning and its recent reviews are the strongest of any tour we checked in Tulum.

How Much Do 4 Days in Tulum Cost?

For two adults, before flights, meals, tips and the taxes and fees added at hotel checkout. The range runs from the cheapest month to the most expensive in our sample.

StyleHotel, 3 nightsTours, ruins and transfers for twoTotal for two
Budget hotel$243 to $465$852$1,095 to $1,317
Town hotel$291 to $546$852$1,143 to $1,398
Beach-zone hotel$528 to $1,023$852$1,380 to $1,875

The beaches, the town and the bike rides are free, so they add $0. What goes into it: private transfers from Tulum airport both ways ($280 for two, if the return costs the same as the arrival), the ruins on your own ($28), the Cenote Triple Adventure ($260), the cooking class ($186) and the reef snorkel ($98). Hotel figures are per-night rates for two across 22 well-rated Tulum hotels: budget is the cheapest quarter, $81 to $155 a night; town is the median of the 12 town hotels, $97 to $182; beach zone is the median of the 10 beach hotels, $176 to $341.

Our Take

Four days is where Tulum starts to feel easy. Do the ruins yourself at opening time, give one morning to the cenotes, and let the beach and the town fill the gaps for free. The cheapest part of this trip is also the part you will remember most.

Tips for a 4-Day Trip to Tulum

  • Be at the ruins for 8 am with pesos for the entrance and water for the walk.
  • Bring a change of clothes on the cenote morning; the cenotes are cool, and you go straight on to the cooking class.
  • Borrow a bike from your hotel; the beach road has little parking.
  • Planning a different length? Our 3-day, 5-day and 7-day Tulum itineraries use the same approach, and our best things to do in Tulum guide covers every activity.
  • Staying in Cancún instead? Our 4 days in Cancún itinerary plans the same length from the hotel zone.

How We Built This Itinerary

We built this plan around real start times and durations. On November 4, 2026 we checked live availability and prices on Viator for two adults on February 10 and July 14, 2027 for each tour in the plan and its swaps, and read each tour's 30 most recent Viator reviews; tours whose recent reviews had slipped were left out. The ruins entrance is the July 20, 2026 fee for foreign adults, from our Tulum ruins guide. Hotel costs come from our hotel partner's rates for the same 22 Tulum hotels, rated at least 8 out of 10 from at least 300 reviews, for a four-night stay for two starting in the middle of each month from November 2026 to October 2027, pulled the same day, before the taxes and fees added at checkout. Prices change; always confirm with the operator or hotel before booking. We have not taken these tours ourselves.

On your own is cheapest: 265 MXN (about $14) per foreign adult since July 20, 2026, and arriving at the 8 am opening beats the crowds. A tour adds a guide and transport and often combines the ruins with turtles and a cenote.
