A week in Tulum fits the ruins, the cenotes, Cobá, Sian Ka'an and a whole free day on the beach by bike. Here is the plan, with start times, live prices and what seven days cost for two by month.
What You Should Know
- Seven days is six nights, with five full days. That fits three paid days out, the ruins on your own, a cooking class and a whole free beach day.
- Cobá is the big addition: Mexico Kan Tours' day from Tulum leaves at 8 am for about eight hours, with an archaeologist-historian guide, a bike ride through the ruins, the Punta Laguna monkey reserve, a cenote and lunch, $184 per person.
- Day 5 costs nothing: ride a bike from town along the beach road, swimming at the free accesses at Playa Paraíso, Las Palmas and Playa Pescadores.
- For two people, a town hotel, the tours, the ruins and private transfers from Tulum airport came to about $2,142 to $2,652 on our November 4, 2026 checks, depending on the month, before flights and meals.
7 Days in Tulum: The Plan at a Glance
⭐ Our 7-day plan: free beach and town, the ruins at opening time, three cenotes, Cobá, a free beach day by bike, Sian Ka'an, and a cooking class before your flight. Three paid days out, never two in a row, and a free block every day.
7 days in Tulum is long enough to see the ruins on the sea, the ruins in the jungle and the reserve south of town, and still spend a whole day doing nothing but moving between free beaches on a bike. The order keeps the long days apart: Cobá on day 4, a free day on day 5, Sian Ka'an on day 6.
| Day | Plan | Start and length | Price per person |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Fly in; free afternoon at Playa Paraíso and a free evening in Tulum Pueblo | About 30 min from Tulum airport | Transfer from $70 each way for two sharing |
| Day 2 | Tulum ruins on your own at 8 am, then a free afternoon at Playa Mangle | About 2 hours at the site | 265 MXN (about $14) |
| Day 3 | Cenote Triple Adventure, then a free evening in town | 9 am, 4 hours | $130 |
| Day 4 | Cobá ruins, Punta Laguna and a cenote | 8 am, about 8 hours | $184 |
| Day 5 | Free beach day by bike: Playa Paraíso, Las Palmas and Playa Pescadores | All day | Free |
| Day 6 | Free morning, then Muyil and the Sian Ka'an float | 12:30 pm, about 6 hours | $219 |
| Day 7 | Cooking class in a local home, then the airport | 10:30 am, 3 hours | $93 |
Prices are what we found on November 4, 2026 for two adults travelling in February and July 2027; they were the same in both months. For everything else Tulum offers, see our best things to do in Tulum guide.
7 Days in Tulum, Day by Day
Day 1: Arrive, the Beach and the Town
Tulum airport is about 30 minutes from town and Cancún airport about two hours; a private one-way transfer was $140 per vehicle on our check. See our airport transfer guide. Spend a free afternoon at Playa Paraíso and a free evening on Avenida Tulum.
Day 2: The Ruins at 8 am, Then a Free Beach
Enter the Tulum ruins through Jaguar Park at the 8 am opening for 265 MXN (about $14) per foreign adult; the first hour is the only time the clifftop view is free of crowds. See our ruins rules guide. Then walk into Playa Mangle, free from the park's south entrance between 8 am and 5 pm.
Day 3: Three Cenotes
The Cenote Triple Adventure, rated 5.0 from 468 reviews, leaves from a meeting point in town at 9 am and spends about four hours at Gran Cenote, Casa Cenote and Cenote Zemway, $130 per person with gear and snacks. The afternoon and evening are free; walk the town for dinner.
Day 4: Cobá and Punta Laguna
Mexico Kan Tours' Cobá day, rated 5.0 from 535 reviews, collects you from your Tulum hotel at 8 am for about eight hours: an archaeologist-historian guide, a bike ride through the jungle ruins of Cobá, the Punta Laguna reserve, where guests report seeing spider monkeys, a cenote, a visit with a Maya family and lunch. It was $184 per person; pickups north of Tulum cost more. A March 2026 guest called Cobá, set deep in the jungle, their favourite ruins of the trip. See our Cobá ruins guide.
Day 5: A Free Beach Day by Bike
No tour and no cost. Borrow a bike from your hotel and ride the flat two miles from town to the beach road, then work your way along the free public accesses: Playa Paraíso, Las Palmas and Playa Pescadores. The coast faces east, so go early for the sunrise. This is the day the trip slows down, and it falls between the two long tours on purpose.
Day 6: A Free Morning, Then Sian Ka'an
Keep the morning free. At 12:30 pm, the Muyil and Sian Ka'an tour, rated 4.9 from 846 reviews, collects you for about six hours: the Muyil ruins, a boat across two lagoons and a float of more than 30 minutes down a canal through the mangroves, then tacos, $219 per person. See our Sian Ka'an tour guide.
Day 7: Cook, Eat, Fly
The cooking class in a Tulum family home starts at 10:30 am, about three hours with all the food and drinks, for $93 per person, before an afternoon flight.
Free Things to Do in 7 Days in Tulum
A week has a whole free day and a free block on every other day. None of these cost anything beyond a bike or a short taxi.
| When | Free thing | Where | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Playa Paraíso, then Tulum Pueblo | Beach road; the town | A free public access, then dinner in town |
| Day 2 afternoon | Playa Mangle | Jaguar Park south entrance | Free to walk into from 8 am to 5 pm, straight on from the ruins |
| Day 3 evening | Avenida Tulum | The town | An easy evening after the cenotes |
| Day 5, all day | Bike between Playa Paraíso, Las Palmas and Playa Pescadores | The beach road, about two miles from town | A whole free day between the two long tours |
| Day 6 morning | Your nearest free beach access | Beach road | The Sian Ka'an tour does not start until 12:30 pm |
The beach is public, but the beach road has only a few free entry points and tight parking, which is why a bike works best; many hotels lend them. The federal government says 10 public beach accesses have opened along Tulum's coast since 2025. In spring and summer, check our Tulum sargassum guide before the beach day.
Swaps for a Week in Tulum
| Swap | When it makes sense | Price on our check |

| Sian Ka'an full day to Punta Allen for day 6 | For dolphins, turtles and a boat day further into the reserve; 7 am, about 10 hours | $254 per person |
| Two-hour reef snorkel for day 7 | If you prefer the sea to cooking; 10 am, noon or 2 pm | $49 per person |
Where to Stay for 7 Days in Tulum

Both tours that pick up from hotels collect anywhere in Tulum. Our Tulum hotels guide compares the areas.

Book the Tours for 7 Days in Tulum
All of these could be booked for February and July 2027 dates on our November 4, 2026 check, except the whale shark tour, which runs only in season. Cobá is our pick for a week because it is the second great ruin site within reach of Tulum and the one shorter trips skip; its 30 most recent Viator reviews averaged 4.9.

Our Take
A week in Tulum works best when the free days are planned as carefully as the tours. Put the beach day between the two long outings, borrow a bike, and you get the version of Tulum that is not on any booking page.
Tips for a Week in Tulum
- Book Cobá and Sian Ka'an first; they run with small groups and fill in the dry season.
- Carry pesos for the ruins entrance and small purchases on the beach road.
- Bring water shoes and a change of clothes for the cenote and lagoon days.
- Planning a shorter trip? Our 3-day, 4-day and 5-day Tulum itineraries use the same approach, and our best things to do in Tulum guide covers every activity.
- Staying in Cancún instead? Our 7 days in Cancún itinerary plans the same length from the hotel zone.
How We Built This Itinerary
We built this plan around real start times and durations. On November 4, 2026 we checked live availability and prices on Viator for two adults on February 10 and July 14, 2027 for each tour in the plan and its swaps, and read each tour's 30 most recent Viator reviews; tours whose recent reviews had slipped were left out. The ruins entrance is the July 20, 2026 fee for foreign adults, from our Tulum ruins guide. Hotel costs come from our hotel partner's rates for the same 22 Tulum hotels, rated at least 8 out of 10 from at least 300 reviews, for a four-night stay for two starting in the middle of each month from November 2026 to October 2027, pulled the same day, before the taxes and fees added at checkout. Prices change; always confirm with the operator or hotel before booking. We have not taken these tours ourselves.
