Five days in Cancún is the first length where nothing has to be cut: the reef, the cenotes, Chichén Itzá, Isla Mujeres and an easy last morning. Here is the order, with start times, live prices and real costs for two by month.

What You Should Know

  • Five days is four nights, with three full days in the middle. It fits the sea, the cenotes, Chichén Itzá and Isla Mujeres without two long days in a row.
  • Keep the boat days apart. The turtle and cenote snorkel goes on day 2 and the Isla Mujeres sailing on day 4, with Chichén Itzá between them, so a windy day only costs you one of them.
  • The Isla Mujeres sailing leaves from Puerto Morelos, south of Cancún: $55 per person on our check plus about $20 for hotel transport and a dock fee, with sailings at 8:30 am, 11:30 am and 2:30 pm.
  • For two people, a mid-range hotel, four tours and an airport transfer came to about $1,692 in May and $1,952 in February on our November 4, 2026 checks, before flights and meals.

5 Days in Cancún: The Plan at a Glance

⭐ Our 5-day plan: beach on day 1, turtles and a cenote on day 2, Chichén Itzá on day 3, a sail to Isla Mujeres on day 4, and a cooking class before your flight on day 5. Sea, land, sea, then an easy morning, with free beach time or a free evening on four of the five days.

5 days in Cancún is the length we recommend most. It is the first trip where you do not have to choose between Chichén Itzá and an island, and it leaves a slow last morning instead of a rush to the airport. The order is what makes it work: the two sea days are split by the inland day, so a windy forecast never costs you both.

DayPlanStart and lengthPrice per person
Day 1Fly in, transfer to the Hotel Zone; free afternoon on the beach and dinner20 to 30 min from the airport$47 private transfer, round trip
Day 2Sea turtle and cenote snorkel; free afternoon at Playa Las PerlasHotel pickup, about 5 hours$99 + $20 conservation fee
Day 3Chichén Itzá, cenote and Valladolid6:30 am, about 12 hours$49 + about $43 entrance
Day 4Isla Mujeres luxury sailing with snorkelling and lunch; free evening downtown at Parque de las Palapas8:30 am, 11:30 am or 2:30 pm; 5.5 hours$55 + about $20 transport + dock fee
Day 5Mexican cooking class, then a free stop at Playa Delfines on the way to the airport9:30 or 11:00 am, 4 hours$79

Prices are what we found on November 4, 2026 for two adults travelling in February and July 2027; they were the same in both months. For the planning rules behind this plan, see our Cancún itinerary guide.

5 Days in Cancún, Day by Day

Day 1: Arrive and Settle In

Allow up to 90 minutes for immigration and bags, then 20 to 30 minutes to the Hotel Zone. A private round-trip transfer was $47 per person on our check; our airport transfer guide compares the options. Then a free afternoon on the beach: Playa Caracol, at Km 9, is a small, calm beach at Punta Cancún near the restaurants. Dinner, early night.

Day 2: Turtles and a Cenote

Ocean Tours Mexico's half-day sea turtle and cenote snorkel, rated 4.9 from 2,742 reviews, takes about five hours with hotel pickup: green turtles near Akumal, then a swim in a cenote. It was $99 per person plus a $20 conservation fee, and its 30 most recent Viator reviews averaged 4.9. Back by mid-afternoon, spend the rest of the day free at Playa Las Perlas, Km 2.5, where local families swim in calm water, with a playground, palapas, showers and free parking.

Day 3: Chichén Itzá

The most-reviewed Chichén Itzá tour, from Sat Mexico Tours, leaves at 6:30 am and takes about 12 hours, with Cenote Saamal, a buffet lunch and Valladolid. It was $49 per person, plus the site entrance of about $43 per adult unless you book its all-inclusive option. See our Chichén Itzá tour guide for the alternatives.

Day 4: Sail to Isla Mujeres

Cancun Adventures' Isla Mujeres luxury sailing, rated 4.6 from 3,695 reviews, leaves from Puerto Morelos at 8:30 am, 11:30 am or 2:30 pm for about five and a half hours, with an open bar, a light lunch on board, snorkelling when the sea allows and free time on the island. It was $55 per person on our check; hotel transport adds $20, and one November 2026 guest paid $40 per person in all for transport and dock fees. Recent guests note the snorkel is a swim between spots rather than around the boat, so strong swimmers enjoy it most, and a few skipped it when the wind picked up. The 8:30 am sailing gives you the most time on the island and gets you back for a free evening downtown: the R1 bus runs to Parque de las Palapas, the downtown plaza that comes alive in the evening, and the Mercado 28 craft market for about 12 pesos. Our Cancún catamaran guide compares other boats, and our Isla Mujeres guide covers the island.

Day 5: Cook, Eat, Fly

The Mexican cooking class from Cancun Food Tours starts at 9:30 or 11:00 am with a market visit, and you eat the meal you cook, with a margarita, in about four hours. It was $79 per person with transport. You are back by early afternoon, in time for a flight from about 5 pm; with an earlier flight, swap it for the beach. On the way to the airport, stop at Playa Delfines, the free public beach at Km 18 with the CANCÚN sign and free parking, about 15 minutes from the terminal.

Free Things to Do in 5 Days in Cancún

Four of the five days have a free block. Use them; they are what make the trip feel like a holiday rather than a tour schedule.

WhenFree thingWhereWhy it fits
Day 1 afternoonPlaya CaracolKm 9, Punta CancúnSmall and calm, a short walk from restaurants
Day 2 afternoonPlaya Las PerlasKm 2.5, bay sideCalm swimming, playground, palapas, showers and free parking
Day 4 eveningParque de las Palapas and Mercado 28Downtown, at the end of the R1 bus lineThe evening plaza and craft market, about 12 pesos each way by bus
Day 5, on the way to the airportPlaya Delfines and the CANCÚN signKm 18, about 15 min from the airportFree entry and parking; the open-sea view

Every beach here is public and free to use; you pay only for loungers or drinks at beach clubs. The R1 and R2 buses run the length of the Hotel Zone and into downtown for about 12 pesos, cash to the driver. Our best beaches in Cancún guide compares the sand, swimming and sargassum at each one, and our guide to things to do in Cancún without a car covers more free sights.

Change the Plan by Season

If you travel in...Change
June to SeptemberSwap day 2 for a whale shark tour: $199 per person on our July check, 6:00 am pickup, 6 to 10 hours. Book weeks ahead in July and August.
December to FebruaryA norte can cancel a boat day. Because the sea days are split, move the Isla Mujeres sailing to day 5 morning if day 4 is windy, and cook another time.
Spring and summerSargassum can reach the Hotel Zone beaches and parts of the coast; see our Cancún sargassum guide. The cenotes and Chichén Itzá are unaffected.

Our month guides, such as Cancún in April and Cancún in November, cover weather and crowds month by month.

Where to Stay for 5 Days in Cancún

Stay in the Hotel Zone, where the tours pick up. With four nights and two long days out, the southern half of the strip, from about Km 14, is a good choice: quieter beaches, closer to the airport and to the road south to Puerto Morelos for the sailing. Our best all-inclusive resorts in Cancún and best Hotel Zone hotels guides compare them.

Book the Tours for 5 Days in Cancún

All of these could be booked for February and July 2027 dates on our November 4, 2026 check, except the whale shark tour, which runs only in season. We chose this Isla Mujeres sailing over the most-reviewed all-inclusive Isla Mujeres catamaran, whose 30 most recent Viator reviews averaged 3.4.

How Much Do 5 Days in Cancún Cost?

For two adults, before flights, meals outside an all-inclusive, tips and the taxes and fees added at hotel checkout. The range runs from the cheapest month to the most expensive in our sample.

StyleHotel, 4 nightsTours and transfer for twoTotal for two
Budget hotel$428 to $560$824$1,252 to $1,384
Mid-range hotel$868 to $1,128$824$1,692 to $1,952
All-inclusive resort$1,608 to $2,504$824$2,432 to $3,328, meals included

The beach afternoons, the evening downtown and Playa Delfines are free, so they add $0 apart from the bus fare. What goes into it: the private airport transfer ($94 for two), the turtle and cenote snorkel with its fee ($238), Chichén Itzá with the entrance ($184), the Isla Mujeres sailing with transport ($150, plus the dock fee) and the cooking class ($158). Hotel figures are per-night rates for two: the budget row is the cheapest quarter of the 42 well-rated hotels we priced, $107 to $140 a night; mid-range is their median, $217 in May to $282 in February; all-inclusive is the median of 10 resorts, $402 in September to $626 in February.

Is 5 Days Enough in Cancún?

Yes. Five days covers what most people come for, the sea, the cenotes, Chichén Itzá and Isla Mujeres, with no back-to-back long days. What it does not include is a whole lazy beach day or the second ruins, Tulum. Add two more days and our 7 days in Cancún plan fits both, plus Rio Secreto. For a tighter trip, our 4 days in Cancún plan drops the island.

  • Don't put the Isla Mujeres sailing the day after the snorkel tour; split the sea days.
  • Don't forget transport to Puerto Morelos; the sailing does not include it unless you add it.
  • Do keep one evening free for a sunset on the lagoon side of the Hotel Zone.

Our Take

Five days is the trip we would plan for a friend. It is long enough that nothing has to be cut, and short enough that every day has a purpose. The one thing to protect is the order: sea, land, sea, then an easy last morning.

Tips for a 5-Day Trip to Cancún

  • Take motion sickness tablets if you are prone to it; one sailing guest recommended them the night before.
  • Carry pesos for the dock, conservation and entrance fees, which are paid on the day.
  • Book the sailing early in the week so a windy day can be moved.
  • Planning a different length? Our 3-day, 4-day and 7-day Cancún itineraries use the same approach, and our Cancún itinerary guide covers the planning rules.
  • Basing yourself further south? Our 5 days in Tulum itinerary does the same length from Tulum, with the ruins, cenotes and free public beaches close by.

How We Built This Itinerary

We built this plan around real start times and durations rather than ideal ones. On November 4, 2026 we checked live availability and prices on Viator for two adults on February 10 and July 14, 2027 for each tour in the plan and its swaps, and read each tour's 30 most recent Viator reviews; tours whose recent reviews had slipped, such as the all-inclusive Isla Mujeres catamaran, were left out. Hotel costs come from our hotel partner's rates for the same 42 Cancún hotels, rated at least 8 out of 10 from at least 500 reviews, for a four-night stay for two starting in the middle of each month from November 2026 to October 2027, pulled the same day, before the taxes and fees added at checkout. The all-inclusive figures are the median of the 10 all-inclusive resorts that quoted every month. Prices change; always confirm with the operator or hotel before booking. We have not taken these tours ourselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 5 days enough in Cancún?+

Yes. Five days, or four nights, covers the sea, the cenotes, Chichén Itzá and Isla Mujeres without two long days in a row, and leaves an easy last morning. A seventh day adds Tulum, Rio Secreto and a full beach day.

What should I do with 5 days in Cancún?+

Arrive and stay on the beach on day 1, snorkel with turtles and in a cenote on day 2, visit Chichén Itzá on day 3, sail to Isla Mujeres on day 4, and take a morning cooking class before your flight on day 5.

How much do 5 days in Cancún cost?+

For two people, a mid-range hotel for four nights, an airport transfer and four tours came to about $1,692 to $1,952 on our November 4, 2026 checks, depending on the month, before flights and meals. With an all-inclusive resort it was about $2,432 to $3,328 with meals included.

How do you get to Isla Mujeres from Cancún?+

On a tour like the luxury sailing in this plan, which leaves from Puerto Morelos with hotel transport for about $20 extra, or by the public ferry from the Hotel Zone or Puerto Juárez if you want to explore on your own. Our Isla Mujeres guide covers the island.

Should I stay in an all-inclusive for 5 days in Cancún?+

It is good value if you will be out on long tour days and want meals sorted. In our sample the median all-inclusive was $402 to $626 a night for two, against $217 to $282 for a mid-range room-only hotel, so it pays off if you would otherwise eat and drink at the hotel.
