Top Cancún tours bookable on Christmas Day

Christmas in Cancún means afternoons around 28°C, a cold front or two, Mexico's school holidays and hotel rates about 65% above mid-December. We priced 45 hotels date by date and checked which of the top tours actually run on December 25.

What You Should Know

  • Christmas 2026 falls on a Friday. December 25 and January 1 are federal rest days in Mexico, December 24 is not, and Mexico's school winter break runs from December 21, 2026 to January 5, 2027, so the Hotel Zone fills with Mexican families as well as visitors from the US and Canada.
  • Hotel rates climb right through the holiday. Across 45 well-rated Cancún hotels, the median night for two was $229 for a stay from December 13, $379 from December 23 and $541 over New Year's Eve. Checking in on the 24th instead of the 23rd cost about 7% more at the typical hotel.
  • Christmas Day is a closing day for many tours. Of the 45 most-reviewed Cancún tours we checked, 29 could be booked for December 25, 2026, but 15 that run on ordinary Fridays were closed, including the biggest Chichén Itzá, ATV and Puerto Morelos snorkel tours.
  • The weather is warm but not guaranteed. Christmas Day averaged a 28°C high over two decades of records, with two or three showery days in a typical Christmas fortnight. Mexico's weather service forecasts 9 cold fronts for December 2026, and a strong one can mean a 21°C day and cancelled boat trips.

Christmas in Cancún: The Honest Picture

⭐ Best Christmas window: arrive by Monday, December 21 and check in no later than Wednesday, December 23. In our sample, the median hotel night for two was $302 for a stay from the 21st and $379 from the 23rd, against $432 from Christmas Eve and $541 over New Year's Eve, and you get the posadas, the lights and Christmas Day itself.

FactorOur Christmas Score
Weather8/10: warm afternoons around 28°C; a norte can bring a cool, windy day
Rain (10 = none)8/10: about 3 showery days in the fortnight, rarely all day

Prices3/10: the typical hotel about 1.5 times its mid-December rate

Beaches & Sargassum8/10: sargassum forecast to keep falling into December
Festive Atmosphere8/10: posadas, a free Christmas village and resort Nochebuena dinners
Families8/10: school holidays line up; book early
Couples7/10: warm and festive, but busy and priced for peak

💰 Christmas 2026 hotel prices in Cancún (median per night for two adults, in US dollars):
Mid-December (check in Sunday, December 13): ~$229 · Christmas (December 23 to 26): ~$379 · Check in on Christmas Eve: ~$432 · New Year's Eve (December 30 to January 2): ~$541
Each figure is the median of the cheapest rate on any meal plan at the same 45 Hotel Zone and downtown hotels, rated 8 or more from at least 500 reviews, for a three-night stay from that date, pulled November 4, 2026, before the taxes and fees added at checkout. All-inclusive resorts are counted at their all-inclusive rate. Individual hotels range far wider; see the table below.

Planning Christmas in Cancún for 2026? Christmas Eve is Thursday, December 24 and Christmas Day is Friday, December 25. In more than two decades of daily records from Cancún's weather station, Christmas Day itself averaged a high of 28.5°C (83°F) and a low of 20.2°C (68°F); across the whole fortnight from December 20 to January 1 the averages were a little lower, 28.3°C and 19.7°C. That is warm enough for the beach on most days, though a cold front can knock a day back to the low 20s. The weather figures on this page are long-term records; the hotel prices, tour schedules and event dates are for Christmas 2026 specifically.

Christmas in Cancún is a peak-season trip. Mexico's schools break up on December 21, flights into the airport hit their yearly high around the Saturday before Christmas, and hotel rates rise every few days from mid-December to New Year's Eve. Christmas Eve (Nochebuena) is the main celebration in Mexico, with a late family dinner, and most resorts put on a special dinner that night.

In our view, Christmas in Cancún is worth it if warm weather on December 25 is the point of the trip: book the hotel now, check in by the 23rd, and plan Christmas Day around tours and places that actually open. If your dates can move, the first half of December has the same weather for about 40% less, and our Cancún in December guide covers that window.

Where to Stay for Christmas in Cancún

Book now if you have not already. On November 4, 61 of the 76 hotels we priced quoted a room for a stay from December 13, but only 47 for New Year's Eve, and the rates that are left are the higher ones. Check in on December 23 if you can: the median hotel night was $379 from the 23rd and $432 from the 24th, and Hilton Cancún Mar Caribe's all-inclusive rate was $390 a night from the 23rd and $746 from the 24th.

Most resorts stand along Kukulcán Boulevard in the Hotel Zone, numbered by kilometre. Around Km 9 at Punta Cancún you are closest to the bars and the Christmas crowds; from Km 14 to 21 the beaches are longer and quieter, 15 to 25 minutes from the airport. The free Christmas village is downtown at Malecón Tajamar, about 15 minutes from Km 9 by taxi. Our guides to the best all-inclusive resorts in Cancún and the best family all-inclusives compare more resorts, and the grid below prices our seven picks live for Christmas.

Hilton Mar Caribe is the value pick only for an early check-in: its all-inclusive rate was $746 a night from December 24 and $1,756 from December 27. Le Blanc barely changed its rate for Christmas, so the gap between it and the other adults-only resorts is smaller at Christmas than in mid-December.

Compare and Book Cancún Tours That Run on Christmas Day

These six tours could all be booked for Friday, December 25, 2026 when we checked, which matters because many of Cancún's best-known tours close that day. Our Christmas pick is the Cancún jungle tour: it leaves from the Hotel Zone, takes about two and a half hours, and was the same $69 per person on every holiday date we checked. Wind can close the reef stop, so book it early in your trip.

Cancún Weather at Christmas: Temperature, Rain and Nortes

We read the daily records rather than the monthly averages, because a Christmas trip only cares about one fortnight. The figures below come from Cancún's Servicio Meteorológico Nacional station, whose daily records for 1988 to 2012 are archived by NOAA, and from NOAA's daily summaries for Cancún airport (station 76595) for 2010 to 2024.

Sunrise and sunset, December 25About 7:22 am and 6:12 pmOur calculation for Cancún (UTC−5)

Why the averages and sample sizes differ: the fortnight rows average every day from December 20 to January 1, so they run slightly cooler than Christmas Day alone. The station's record also has gaps: 23 Christmas Days have a low and a rainfall reading, but one of them is missing its high, which leaves 22 years for the high, and only 18 years have a rain reading for every day of the fortnight.

What it feels like: warm, sunny afternoons in the high 20s and comfortable evenings around 20°C, with less humidity than in summer. Pack a light layer for dinners outdoors and for the days after a front.

Nortes: the main weather risk at Christmas is a norte, a cold front from the north that brings one to three days of strong wind, rough sea on the Hotel Zone's north-facing beaches and a sharp drop in temperature. Christmas Day 2022 reached only 21°C at the airport. Mexico's water authority forecasts 56 cold fronts for the 2026–2027 season, above the 1990–2020 average of 50, with 9 in December, the most of any month. Not every front reaches Cancún with force, but plan on at least one breezy, cooler spell during a Christmas week.

Swimming: the sea stays warm enough to swim without a wetsuit. The nearest long-running NOAA buoy, station 42056, averaged 27.6 to 28.2°C over December 20 to 31 in 2019 to 2025; it sits far out in the Caribbean, so the water at the beach is likely a little cooler, especially after a norte. Red flags go up on the Hotel Zone beaches during strong wind, so swim where the lifeguards say it is safe.

Sargassum: the University of South Florida's October 31, 2026 outlook found sargassum amounts fell by more than half in October and expects them to keep falling until about the end of November or December, with some much smaller landings in the Caribbean still likely. Our Cancún sargassum guide covers which beaches are cleanest.

Crowds and Hotel Prices Over Christmas, Date by Date

How to read the prices: every figure is in US dollars, per night, for two adults in one room, for a three-night stay from the check-in date shown, pulled on November 4, 2026, before the taxes and fees added at checkout. They are sample rates, not quotes.

Check-in (3 nights)Median per nightvs. December 13Hotels with a rate (of 76 priced)
Sunday, December 6$265+16%60
Sunday, December 13$229lowest61

Sunday, January 3, 2027$292+28%59
Sunday, January 10, 2027$272+19%62

The medians are for the 45 hotels that quoted on all ten dates (5 three-star, 17 four-star and 23 five-star), so each row compares the same hotels. Hotel by hotel, the Christmas stay cost a median 1.5 times the same hotel's December 13 rate, and New Year's Eve 2.0 times. The falling count in the last column is hotels that had nothing left to sell for those dates.

All-inclusive resorts over Christmas

The cheapest all-inclusive rate for two, per night, for three-night stays, in US dollars. "No rate" means the resort returned no all-inclusive price for that stay.

Le Blanc (adults only)$1,015$1,033$1,227$1,211$999

Two resorts barely moved for Christmas itself: Le Blanc was 2% above its mid-December rate and Hilton Mar Caribe 5%, though Hilton's rate jumped for later check-ins. At the family favourite Fiesta Americana Condesa, the Christmas stay cost about twice its mid-December rate.

How busy it gets

Mexico's Secretaría de Educación Pública confirms the 2026–2027 winter break runs from December 21, 2026 to January 5, 2027, so Mexican families arrive alongside the North American holiday crowd. Cancún airport handled 2,716,484 passengers in December 2025, according to its operator ASUR, and Saturday, December 20, 2025, with 686 scheduled flights, was the airport's busiest day of the year, as reported by El Congresista. Expected, based on last year: Saturday, December 19, 2026 will be one of the busiest days at the airport, so allow extra time.

The ruins fill up too. Chichén Itzá had 18,663 visitors on Sunday, December 28, 2025, as reported by Por Esto, so go before Christmas or early in the morning.

How Much Does Christmas in Cancún Cost in 2026?

All prices are in US dollars, from our November 4, 2026 checks, for Christmas 2026 dates.

ExpenseChristmas 2026 price
Hotel, median of 45 hotels, check in December 23$379 a night for two ($1,137 for three nights)
All-inclusive resort, check in December 23$303 (Royal Solaris) to $1,033 (Le Blanc) a night for two
Private airport transfer, round trip to the Hotel Zone$94 for two people, booked for December 23
Jungle tour (self-drive speedboat and snorkel)$69 per person, plus about $20 dock and park fee in cash
Chichén Itzá, cenote and Valladolid day trip (Amigo Tours)$39 to $59 per person on December 24 to 26, cheapest option; check whether the entrance fees are included
Street food and market tour$64 per person
Christmas village at Malecón TajamarFree in 2025

Example: a couple, three all-inclusive nights at Crown Paradise Club from December 23. The resort costs $343 a night, or $1,029. Add a private airport transfer ($94), the jungle tour for two ($138 plus about $40 in cash fees, so $178) and the street food tour on December 26 for two ($128). That comes to about $1,429 before flights, tips and the taxes and fees added at hotel checkout. The same trip at Fiesta Americana Condesa ($698 a night) would be about $2,494.

What's Open in Cancún on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day

December 25 and January 1 are mandatory rest days under Mexico's federal labour law, as the government's labour advocate, PROFEDET, lists, so banks and government offices close; December 24 and December 12 are not. Resorts, most restaurants in the Hotel Zone and the big parks stay open, but many tour operators take the day off.

We checked each of the 45 most-reviewed Cancún tours on Viator, rated 4.5 or more, for availability on the holiday dates, and against two ordinary Fridays, December 11 and 18, so a tour that simply does not run on Fridays is not counted as closed. Twenty-nine could be booked for Christmas Day, 15 were closed, and one was unclear. New Year's Day looked much the same. Prices are per person, for two adults.

The ruins and the parks

  • Chichén Itzá, Tulum, Cobá and Ek Balam: INAH, which runs the sites, lists them as open Monday to Sunday (Tulum 8 am to 5 pm, last entry 3:30 pm) but publishes no holiday hours. Its two official pages disagree on Chichén Itzá's closing time, 4 pm or 5 pm. Chichén Itzá had 5,449 visitors on New Year's Eve 2025, as reported by Posta, and some Chichén tours sell December 25 and January 1, but we found no official confirmation for the holidays themselves, so ask your operator.
  • Xcaret: the park's official FAQ says it opens every day from 8:30 am to 10 pm, holidays included. Our Xcaret rules guide covers what to bring.
  • Church services: Hotel Zone churches did not publish Christmas mass times we could find for 2025; check closer to the date with the Diocese of Cancún-Chetumal or ask your hotel's concierge.

How Cancún Celebrates Christmas: Posadas, Nochebuena and the Christmas Village

Mexico's Christmas season runs from the posadas in mid-December to the Day of the Kings in January, as the national Indigenous peoples' institute, INPI, describes. In Cancún you will see it in the city's lights and Christmas village, in resort dinners and in downtown churches and neighbourhoods, more than in the Hotel Zone itself.

Christmas Eve in Cancún: The Nochebuena Dinner

At the resorts, Christmas Eve dinner is the big night: most all-inclusives run a special dinner or buffet, and some charge extra for it or for the New Year's Eve gala. Ask your resort what is included before you book, and reserve à la carte restaurants on the day you arrive.

1. Drive Your Own Speedboat on the Jungle Tour

Our Christmas pick runs every holiday date at the same price, leaves from the Hotel Zone and is over in about two and a half hours, so it fits around a Christmas Eve dinner or a lazy Christmas morning. Wind can close the reef stop, so book it for early in the trip. Our Cancún jungle tour guide compares the operators.

2. See Chichén Itzá Before the Holiday Rush

Christmas weather is ideal for the long day at Chichén Itzá, but the site gets crowded from Christmas to New Year. Go on December 21 to 23 if you can. The most-reviewed tours, including our December pick, were closed on Christmas Day; Amigo Tours' version was bookable on the 25th at $59. Our Chichén Itzá tour guide compares the options and the entrance fees.

3. Walk the Christmas Village at Malecón Tajamar

In 2025 the city ran a free Christmas village with an ice rink on the downtown waterfront next to Plaza Las Américas, open until January 6. It is where local families go in the evenings, and a good contrast with the Hotel Zone. The 2026 dates were not announced when we checked; expect a similar village through the holidays.

4. Eat Your Way Through Downtown on a Street Food Tour

The Cancún street food tour we checked runs on Christmas Day and takes you to markets and stalls in the city centre. In the holiday window last year, its Viator reviews averaged 4.0 from 7 reviews, against 4.8 overall, so expect busy stops.

5. Snorkel With Turtles and the Underwater Museum

The water is still warm at Christmas, and the 5-in-1 snorkel tour, which takes in turtles, a reef, the MUSA statues, a shipwreck and a cenote, runs on Christmas Day for $69. The Puerto Morelos reef tours were closed that day. Our Cancún snorkelling guide covers the others. Book for a calm day after a norte has passed.

6. Swim in a Cenote

Cenotes are a good norte-day plan, since the water is sheltered from the wind. The small-group hidden cenotes tour was closed on Christmas Day; Grupo Xcaret's Xenotes tour ran at $159. See our Cancún cenotes guide.

7. Spend a Day at Xcaret

Xcaret says it opens every day, holidays included, which makes it one of the surest options for Christmas Day itself. Compare it with its sister parks in our Xcaret vs Xplor vs Xel-Há guide.

8. Cross to Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres makes a good day out at Christmas, but read the watch-outs below before booking a big party catamaran. Our Isla Mujeres guide covers the island.

9. Dance on the Hip Hop Boat Party (Adults Only)

It sails every holiday date, and the 7 Viator reviews posted over last year's holidays all gave it 5 stars. Tickets are non-refundable. See our hip hop boat party guide.

10. Charter a Private Yacht for the Fireworks

For New Year's Eve, a private yacht on the lagoon is the premium way to see the fireworks. Plan for the price: the three 46 to 55 ft yachts we checked cost 2.2 to 3.1 times as much on December 31 and January 1 as on Christmas Eve. Our Cancún yacht rental guide compares the boats, and our sunset cruise guide covers the shared alternative.

A Cancún Christmas Itinerary: December 20 to 27, 2026

This week-long plan puts the busy day trips before Christmas, keeps Christmas Day for things that actually run on the 25th, and gets you home before the New Year's Eve rates. Prices are from our November 4, 2026 checks, per person; the opening information is from the tables above.

If a norte arrives: swap the boat days for Chichén Itzá, the cenotes or Xcaret, and move the snorkel trip to the calm day after the front passes. Tour prices for December 21 to 23 were not part of our check; the figures shown are the prices we found on the holiday dates.

Staying for New Year's Eve instead? Keep the same order and add the extra days at the end, but book the hotel now: on November 4, only 47 of the 76 hotels we priced had any room left for a December 30 check-in.

Nortes, Packed Boats and Early-December Prices: What to Watch Out For

  • Big party catamarans to Isla Mujeres struggled last Christmas. The most-reviewed all-inclusive Isla Mujeres catamaran on Viator averaged 4.5 stars overall, but its 24 reviews posted from December 22, 2025 to January 12, 2026 averaged 2.5, with 13 at one or two stars. Guests described waits of up to three hours for the boat, snorkel stops cancelled for wind and a crowded island. A second popular Isla Mujeres sailing averaged 3.5 from 12 holiday reviews. If you go, choose a smaller boat, or take the ferry and explore the island yourself.
  • A norte can cancel boat trips. Several holiday reviewers lost their snorkel stop to wind. Book boat tours early in your stay so you can move them, and keep a land day (ruins, cenotes, Xcaret) for the windy days.
  • Early-December tour prices are sales. On our check, the ATV adventure was $49 on December 10 and 11 and $75 from December 18, the Puerto Morelos reef snorkel $29 and then $69, and the hidden cenotes tour $39 and then $79. The higher price ran into January too, so it is a sale ending, not a Christmas surcharge.
  • The cheaper Christmas rooms are going. On November 4, 14 fewer of the hotels we priced quoted a room for New Year's Eve than for mid-December, and many of those left are at peak rates.
  • Not everything is included. Hotel rates on this page exclude the taxes and fees added at checkout, and some all-inclusives charge extra for the Christmas Eve dinner or New Year's Eve gala.

Our Take

The biggest surprise in our checks was how many of Cancún's best-known tours close on Christmas Day, including the most-reviewed Chichén Itzá tour of all. Plan the 25th first: a tour that runs, a park that opens, or a slow day at the resort, then fit everything else around it.

Tips for Christmas in Cancún

  • Check in by December 23. In our sample, a stay from the 23rd cost a median $379 a night against $432 from the 24th, and at some resorts the gap was far bigger.
  • Book Christmas Day plans first. Fifteen of the 45 top tours we checked were closed on December 25; the jungle tour, Xcaret and several snorkel and cenote tours were open.
  • Do Chichén Itzá before Christmas. The site had 18,663 visitors on December 28 last year; December 21 to 23 should be calmer.
  • Allow extra time at the airport on the Saturdays either side of Christmas, December 19 and 26, 2026, and book your airport transfer when you book your flights.
  • Ask about the Christmas Eve dinner and New Year's Eve gala when you book an all-inclusive: whether they are included, and whether you need a reservation.
  • Pack a light layer. Evenings average about 20°C, and a norte can bring a 21°C day.
  • Spending Christmas elsewhere on the coast? Our Christmas in Playa del Carmen guide, Christmas in Tulum guide and Christmas in Cozumel guide use the same date-by-date hotel prices and Christmas Day tour checks.
  • Visiting at a different time of year? Our Cancún in December guide covers the quieter, cheaper first half of the month, our Cancún in January guide covers the dry season after the holidays, and our month-by-month guide to visiting Cancún compares the whole year.

How We Put This Guide Together

Weather: we used two sets of daily observations rather than monthly averages. The first is the Servicio Meteorológico Nacional's Cancún station (SMN 23155), whose daily records for 1988 to 2012 are archived in NOAA's Global Historical Climatology Network; the second is NOAA's Global Summary of the Day for Cancún airport (station 76595) for 2010 to 2024, used only for temperature because its rainfall record is incomplete. We took every day from December 20 to January 1. The station's record has gaps, so the sample sizes differ: 23 Christmas Days have a low and a rainfall reading, 22 of them a high, and 18 years have a rain reading for every day of the fortnight. Sea temperatures are our averages of NOAA buoy 42056 for December 20 to 31, 2019 to 2025. Cold-front figures are CONAGUA's September 4, 2026 forecast, and sargassum is the University of South Florida's October 31, 2026 outlook. Hotels: on November 4, 2026 we priced every Cancún hotel in our hotel partner's data rated at least 8 out of 10 from at least 500 reviews, with 3 to 5 stars, in the Hotel Zone and downtown (76 hotels), for two adults on three-night stays from ten check-in dates between December 6, 2026 and January 10, 2027. The medians use the 45 hotels that quoted on all ten dates. The all-inclusive tables use the same dates and the cheapest rate on the all-inclusive board only; guest scores are our hotel partner's review averages on the same day. Tours: on November 4, 2026 we took the 45 most-reviewed Cancún experiences on Viator rated 4.5 or more, leaving out airport transfers, lounges and whale shark tours, and checked live availability and price for two adults on December 24, 25 and 31, 2026 and January 1, 2027, plus December 10, 11, 18 and 26 and January 8 for comparison. Holiday-window review averages are Viator reviews posted between December 22, 2025 and January 12, 2026. Events and opening hours come from official sources where they exist (PROFEDET, SEP, INAH, Xcaret, ASUR) and from local press where they do not; dates not yet announced for 2026 are labelled as expected, based on last year. We have not stayed at these hotels or taken these tours ourselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Cancún good for Christmas?+

Yes, if you want warm weather on December 25 and can book early. Christmas Day averaged a 28°C (83°F) high over more than two decades of records, and the city puts on posadas, lights and a free Christmas village. The trade-offs are peak crowds, with Mexico's school break running December 21 to January 5, and prices: across 45 hotels, the median night for two was $379 for a stay from December 23, against $229 from December 13.

What is the weather like in Cancún at Christmas?+

Warm and mostly dry. From December 20 to January 1, Cancún's weather station averaged highs of 28.3°C (83°F) and lows of 19.7°C (67°F), with 1 mm of rain or more on about one day in five, usually 3 days in the fortnight. The main risk is a norte, a cold front with strong wind and a cooler day: Christmas Day 2022 reached only 21°C (70°F) at the airport, and Mexico's weather service forecasts 9 cold fronts for December 2026.

Is it warm enough to swim in Cancún at Christmas?+

Yes. The nearest long-running NOAA buoy averaged 27.6 to 28.2°C (82 to 83°F) from December 20 to 31 in 2019 to 2025, though it is far out in the Caribbean and the water at the beach is likely a little cooler after a cold front. During a norte, red flags can close the north-facing Hotel Zone beaches for a day or two.

How much more expensive is Cancún at Christmas?+

On our November 4, 2026 check of 45 hotels, the median night for two was $229 for a stay from December 13, $379 from December 23 (about 65% more), $432 from December 24 and $541 over New Year's Eve. Hotel by hotel, the Christmas stay cost a median 1.5 times the same hotel's mid-December rate. All-inclusive resorts ranged from $303 (Royal Solaris) to $1,033 (Le Blanc) a night for two from December 23, before taxes and fees.

What is open in Cancún on Christmas Day?+

Resorts, most Hotel Zone restaurants and parks such as Xcaret, which says it opens every day including holidays. Banks and government offices close, because December 25 is a federal rest day. Of the 45 most-reviewed Cancún tours we checked, 29 could be booked for December 25, 2026, including the jungle speedboat tour, a Chichén Itzá day trip by Amigo Tours, the 5-in-1 snorkel tour and a street food tour. Fifteen were closed, including the biggest ATV and Puerto Morelos snorkel tours.

What is a good Christmas itinerary for Cancún?+

Arrive on December 20, do Chichén Itzá on the 21st before the holiday crowds, snorkel on the 22nd while you still have spare days if a cold front cancels it, visit cenotes and the Christmas village on the 23rd, keep the 24th for the beach and Christmas Eve dinner, and spend Christmas Day on a tour that runs, such as the jungle speedboat tour, or at Xcaret. Use the 26th for Isla Mujeres or a rescheduled boat trip, and fly home on the 27th before New Year's rates.

Do Cancún resorts have a Christmas Eve dinner?+

Christmas Eve (Nochebuena) is Mexico's main Christmas celebration, and most all-inclusive resorts mark it with a special dinner or buffet, but some charge extra for it or for the New Year's Eve gala. Ask your resort what is included before you book, and reserve à la carte restaurants on the day you arrive.

Is Chichén Itzá open on Christmas Day?+

INAH lists Chichén Itzá as open every day but publishes no holiday hours, so we could not confirm it officially. Some tours, including Amigo Tours' Chichén Itzá day trip, could be booked for December 25 and January 1, and the site had 5,449 visitors on New Year's Eve 2025. Several of the most-reviewed Chichén tours were closed on December 25, so check with your operator, or go on December 21 to 23, before the holiday crowds.

Is Cancún busy at Christmas?+

Very. Mexico's school winter break runs from December 21, 2026 to January 5, 2027, and Cancún airport handled 2.7 million passengers in December 2025, with its busiest day of the year on Saturday, December 20, 2025. Chichén Itzá had 18,663 visitors on December 28, 2025. Expect full resorts, booked restaurants and long queues at the airport on the Saturdays either side of Christmas.

When should I book a Christmas vacation in Cancún?+

As soon as possible. On November 4, 2026, 61 of the 76 hotels we checked quoted a room for mid-December but only 47 for New Year's Eve, and the rooms left were at peak rates. Book Christmas Day tours early too, since many operators close on December 25 and those that run can sell out.
