Riu Palace Las Americas Cancún (Adults Only)

LiteAPI lists more than 30 room entries for Riu Palace Las Americas, but they boil down to four room types. Almost everyone stays in a Junior Suite, with or without a sea view.

The sea-view upgrade is cheap and usually worth it. In our mid-January 2027 price check for three nights, a Junior Suite cost $1,074 and the Ocean View version $1,161, a difference of $87 for the whole stay. Guests who paid for it praise the view of the lagoon and the sea, but one found theirs partial, and two on the outer side of the building heard generators or machinery at night. Ask for an upper floor away from the plant side.

Know what "king" means here. Several guests found their king bed was two doubles pushed together, with separate bedding and a gap down the middle, and beds were firm. If that matters, ask when you book. In March 2027 the Suite with Hot Tub cost $257 more than an Ocean View Junior Suite for three nights.

For groups of friends, the two-bedroom Junior Suites sleep up to six adults as two connecting rooms, from about $2,550 for three nights. Pick a rate labelled all-inclusive: some came back labelled "Full Board", but Riu sells all-inclusive stays. Expect to pay an environmental tax of 79.20 pesos per room per night at the front desk, and note that the resort charges for the full stay if you leave early.

Across 1,614 reviews, Riu Palace Las Americas scores 9.0 out of 10. Its review analysis rates service highest at 9.93 and room quality lowest at 7.92. We read the 83 most recent reviews that included text, from late February to late July 2026; there were none newer.

The beach and the people come first. Guests describe powdery sand, clear turquoise water and waves calmed by Isla Mujeres across the bay. The entertainment team, especially the aqua aerobics instructor, gets the most personal praise, followed by pool bartenders and buffet servers. Several guests compare it favourably with other Riu resorts in Cancún.

The food is solid rather than special. Guests consistently rate the buffet, especially breakfast, above the à la carte restaurants. Krystal and the Japanese restaurant are the favourites; the steakhouse draws complaints about tough steak.

The rooms are the weak point. "Dated" is the most common word in the critical reviews, along with humid or mouldy showers, weak or overly cold air-conditioning, few power outlets and thin walls. Guests also describe the sunbed rush, with towels on loungers by 6am, loud microphone games at the activity pool, and a shortage of toilets near the pools. Summer guests found sargassum on the beach, though spring guests describe it as clear.

The resort is at Km 8.5 on Boulevard Kukulcán, on the north-facing shore of the Hotel Zone, close to Punta Cancún's nightlife and shopping strip and the Cancún convention centre. Several sister Riu resorts are next door, and one guest says Riu Palace guests can use their facilities until 5pm (take your own towel). This north shore is calmer than the open-Caribbean beaches further south. Guests in spring found it free of seaweed, while June and July guests watched staff clear sargassum by hand.
