The Royal Cancún

The Royal Cancún has no standard rooms. Every unit has two bedrooms, a living and dining area and a full kitchen. The suites are 90 m² and the villas 135 m², and both are sold with a resort, garden, beachfront or ocean-front view.

Prices swing a lot by season. In our price checks for three nights for two, all-inclusive with taxes included, the cheapest unit cost $691 in mid-November 2026, $1,043 in mid-January 2027, $900 in mid-March 2027 and $756 in mid-June 2027. In mid-February 2027 only two rates were on sale, from $2,285. The hotel also collects an environmental tax of MXN 145.24 per night at check-in.

Check the bathrooms and the view. Some two-bedroom suites have one bathroom, so read the rate name if you need two. A guest in a lagoon-view unit said the view was really of the parking lot and the road, with traffic noise, so pay for a beachfront or ocean-front unit if the view matters.

Know the house rules. At least one guest in each suite must be over 25, there are no extra beds, and stays that cross a Saturday night may need a room move. Check-in is at 4pm, later than most resorts.

Across 1,441 reviews, The Royal Cancún holds a 9.0 out of 10. The 120 most recent reviews, from late April to early September 2026, average 9.1, with 69 perfect 10s and eight scores of 6 or lower.

Many guests have been coming for years. Owners and repeat guests describe returning for decades, some for 40 years, and they name the bell staff, bartenders and kids' club team who still remember them. Guests praise the spotless grounds, the red-tiled, low-rise buildings and the gardens, and describe a quiet, safe resort.

Families love the beach and the suites. Parents describe a calm, shallow beach with no waves where children can swim, snorkel gear on loan and fish close to shore, plus loungers that are easy to find. They praise the space of the two-bedroom units, the kitchens and the on-site market. Several used the free shuttle to The Royal Sands for more restaurants and pools.

The complaints are about food and evenings. Guests describe few restaurants, a buffet with limited choice and drinks that are only fair, and a few found the Italian restaurant disappointing. Several say there is little to do after 5pm and no evening shows, and one noted the bars close at 10pm. All-inclusive does not cover everything: a rib-eye steak cost about $30 extra for one guest, and you sign a bill for every meal. Five guests complained about timeshare or membership pitches, one spending an hour at a desk after check-in.

The Royal Cancún is at Km 4.5 on Boulevard Kukulcán, near the northern start of the Hotel Zone, on the sheltered Bahía de Mujeres.
