In my opinion, the food was not as good as it should be for the price you pay. This especially applies to breakfast.

Before the renovation, Hard Rock Cancún's standard rooms were 40 m² Deluxe rooms with a king bed or two doubles, sold as Lagoon View or Ocean View, with Diamond Ocean View rooms above them, two-bedroom family rooms of 80 m², and Rock Suites. The renovation includes a complete redesign of the rooms, so expect names and layouts to change.

Book for after the reopening. There was no availability on our mid-November 2026 dates because the resort is closed. From January 2027, three nights for two started at $1,975 in mid-January, $1,631 in February and $1,576 in June, taxes included. In March 2027 an Ocean View room cost $124 more than Lagoon View for three nights; in June the gap was $72.
Children cost extra. Infants up to 3 stay free, but children aged 4 to 17 are charged on top of the room rate, and the two-bedroom Family rooms are sold only to guests travelling with children. One family was presented with a large bill for children at check-in, so make sure every child is on your booking. Choose a rate labelled all-inclusive, and note the resort charges the full stay if you leave early.
What Guests Said Before the Renovation
Across 1,221 reviews, Hard Rock Cancún scores 9.0 out of 10. We read the 87 most recent reviews that included text, from April to September 2026, all written before the renovation; 61 of the 120 most recent gave a perfect 10.
Staff were the highlight. Guests name butlers, pool servers, the entertainment team and the Roxity kids' club staff again and again. Several were repeat visitors, and one family with teenagers called it ideal for that age.
The building was the problem, and it is what the renovation targets. Critical reviews describe an old, tired building, broken lifts, worn towels, rooms that didn't match the photos, and in the final weeks before closing, restaurants shutting and services running short. Several guests felt the resort was small for the price, with one main pool that got crowded and sunbeds claimed with towels at dawn.
Other recurring themes: dinner reservations that were hard to get, weak drinks for one group, sales pitches for vacation packages, and sargassum on the beach in summer. Whether the renovation fixes the crowding and the food is something only post-reopening reviews will show.
What You Should Know
- Book dinners as early as you can. Guests didn't realise restaurants could be reserved before arrival and missed the ones they wanted.
- Check that every child is listed on your booking. Children aged 4 to 17 are charged extra, and one family faced a large charge at check-in.
- Expect a sunbed rush at the main pool. Before the renovation, guests describe loungers being claimed with towels from 5am.
- Read reviews from after December 2026 before booking far ahead. The renovation is extensive, so the first post-reopening stays will show how much has changed.

Hard Rock Cancún is at Km 14.5 on Boulevard Kukulcán, in the middle of the Hotel Zone, with a pharmacy and a few shops within walking distance.
